Something new

Walking past Sheffield Cathedral, Easter

It’s been a long time, I know, since I last wrote a proper post. I’ve got proper excuses. I think. Illness, busyness. Otherness. Still I’m back now. It’ll be like I never left…

So today I started working on the outline of a new book I’m writing. I’ve not abandoned  my other book – far from it. It’s in America at the moment with my best friend being appraised by her brilliant Oxford brain. It’s been there a little while now though and the waiting was getting to be a bit challenging. I have been feeling stuck and unable to move forward until that is back. So in order not to lose my mind, I have been making tentative attempts to begin something new or work on other projects.

And there’s plenty to be getting on with!

I’ve approached this new book, on the advice of another writer, in a slightly different manner. This time I’m planning things out a bit before I go. This goes against the grain –  I’m not a natural planner when it comes to my stories and prefer to let them just grow haphazardly in my brain. This time though, I’m writing with a bit more of a structure in order that I have a map to see where I’m headed on the days when my brain seems to have left the building. I have no idea if it will work. Just have to wait and see. I’d tell you what it’s about, but I’m a bit superstitious. I don’t want to take the air out of its sails before we’re out into the ocean.

In other news, I have a boys’ choir….at last! That took lots of planning and preparation. It’s still growing, still a little wee thing that’s only half born, but as soon as it’s fully fledged I shall talk more of it. Perhaps that was more of a priority than I’d thought. It certainly makes me very happy.
